UNITED NATIONS, May 28 (Xinhua) -- An Indonesian envoy urged here Tuesday that concrete actions be provided to meet the increase in humanitarian needs in Syria.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Syria, Dian Triansyah Djani, permanent representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations, said that "humanitarian responses from the UN and its humanitarian partners must be supported, in order to ensure the rapid and full implementation of humanitarian assistance to those who are really in need."

The international community needs to secure all efforts in alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people, and to prevent another humanitarian tragedy, he said.

Humanitarian preparedness plan must be adjusted with current priority needs, especially with many humanitarian partners having suspended their operations due to heavy fighting in the northwest, the Indonesian diplomat said.

Indonesia is following very closely the situation in northwest Syria, where the ongoing violence and hostilities continue to create a heavy toll on civilians and key infrastructures, he said.

Hundreds of people have been killed or injured, while almost 240,000 individuals are displaced in northwest Syria, he added.

Indonesia fully believes that the humanitarian situation in Syria can only be fully resolved if all relevant parties come to the negotiating table and together advance the political process in Syria, based on the respect for the Syrian sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
