BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with visiting Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on Wednesday.

As socialist countries, China and Cuba have always supported and helped each other, said Yang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.

China firmly supports Cuba's legitimate fight for safeguarding national sovereignty and independence, he said.

As next year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties, China is willing to work with Cuba to implement the major consensus reached by the two countries' leaders, enhance high-level exchanges, promote the joint building of the Belt and Road, and strengthen coordination in international affairs to jointly maintain peace and stability of the two countries and regions, Yang said.

Rodriguez said Cuba is willing to work with China to jointly build the Belt and Road and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields for better development of bilateral relations.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi also held talks with Rodriguez.

Wang said China and Cuba should work with other countries to safeguard the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, and oppose unilateralism and protectionism. China will, as always, support Cuba's just fight against foreign interference and blockade.

Rodriguez told Wang Cuba firmly adheres to the one-China principle and opposes any sanction and discriminatory practice against Chinese tech companies.
