HANGZHOU, June 5 (Xinhua) -- A court in eastern China's Zhejiang Province on Wednesday issued prison terms to 28 people convicted of smuggling over 240,000 tonnes of diesel into China.

The Wenzhou Municipal Intermediate People's Court said the gang's diesel smuggling activities have evaded tax amounting to 560 million yuan (about 81 mln U.S. dollars), making it the largest diesel smuggling crime in the history of the bustling port city of Wenzhou.

Two chief members of the gang were given life imprisonment and will have all their personal assets confiscated. The other 26 convicts were given prison terms from 10 months to 14 years, according to the court.
