BAGHDAD, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Iraq on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Lebanese northern city of Tripoli that resulted in the killing of several security members, calling for a unified global stance to confront the threat of terrorism.

"The striking of terrorism in the month of mercy and forgiveness is yet another proof that terrorism has no religion, and that no one is spared," a statement by the Foreign Ministry said.

"As we denounce this terrorist act, we stress that today more than ever, we call on the world to join all efforts and unite to confront this threat on the life of all societies," it said.

Earlier on Tuesday, a terrorist attack hit the Lebanese city of Tripoli, resulting in the death of four Lebanese security members and the wounding of four others.

The incident took place when a suicide bomber affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group opened fire on a Bank of Lebanon branch and a security post, and then threw a bomb on an Internal Security Forces patrol before blowing himself up after being cordoned by security forces.
