TAIPEI, June 7 (Xinhua) -- People in Taiwan celebrated the traditional Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on Friday this year, with a variety of activities like eating festival food zongzi, racing dragon boats and playing egg-balancing games.

In Taipei, more than 6,000 contestants in 218 teams took part in a dragon boat race on the Keelung River, attracting a large number of audience who cheered for them.

In the egg-balancing games, contestants went creative, dropping raw eggs from an 11-meter-high platform without breaking them. Self-made parachutes utilizing balloons, umbrellas, or even cardboard were used to keep the eggs from falling too fast.

People also queued in front of shops selling zongzi, a traditional rice snack for the festival, with different fillings such as pork and bean paste.

"Creative" zongzi appeared in the market in recent years. People wrap cakes with bamboo leaves, which are usually used to wrap rice, and make zongzi in the shape of eggs instead of the traditional shape of triangle.
