KUNMING, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have busted 371 cases of environmental violations since last year, with 837 suspects punished, local authorities said.

Police in Kunming, capital of Yunnan, have been taking multiple measures such as supervision over handling to severely crack down on crimes related to pollution and destruction of the ecological environment.

The actions mainly include cracking down on illegal mining of sand, rock and soil, illegal fishing in the Dianchi Lake, and carrying out law enforcement actions on pollution control in the Dianchi Lake Basin.

Located in Kunming, the Dianchi Lake, the largest freshwater lake on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, covers 330 square kilometers. In recent years, Yunnan has made great efforts to strengthen ecological environment protection in the Dianchi Lake Basin.
