GAZA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian paramedic on Monday died of wounds he sustained from Israeli gunfire in the northeastern Gaza Strip last month, the Health Ministry said in a press statement.

The paramedic, identified as 36-year-old Mohammad al-Jedeily, died on Monday afternoon in a hospital of critical head wounds caused by Israeli soldiers' gunfire on May 3, the ministry statement said.

Al-Jedeily, an ambulance officer, joined medical teams to rescue Palestinian demonstrators at the weekly anti-Israel protests, better known as the Great March of Return.

He is the fourth Palestinian paramedic who has been killed by Israeli gunfire since the beginning of the weekly protests in late March last year.

According to the Health Ministry in Gaza, the Israeli army has killed 307 Palestinians and wounded more than 17,000 others since the protests.

More than 120 of the injured were amputated, the ministry said.

Organizers of the Great March of Return have been calling on Israel to end more than 12 years of blockade imposed on the impoverished coastal enclave.
