UNITED NATIONS, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations on Wednesday voiced grave concern over a missile attack by Yemeni Houthi rebels on a civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia said a hostile projectile fired by Houthi militia hit the arrival hall of Abha International Airport early Wednesday morning, leaving 26 civilian passengers of different nationalities injured.

"We are deeply concerned over the missile attack on the Abha civilian airport in southern Saudi Arabia. We urge all parties to prevent any such further incidents, which risk escalating the current situation, pose a serious threat to the national and regional security and undermine the UN-led political process," said Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

"We echo the recent Security Council statement calling on all parties to ensure the protection of civilians and critical civilian infrastructure in accordance with international humanitarian law."

The United Nations called for efforts to end the conflict through an inclusive intra-Yemeni dialogue.

Saudi Arabia is leading an Arab military coalition that has been intervening in Yemen's civil war since 2015. The coalition is fighting Houthi rebels in a bid to restore the exiled Yemeni government. Houthis have been targeting Saudi border cities since the beginning of the war.
