WASHINGTON, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. House Oversight Committee voted on Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for not complying with subpoenas for documents relating to the 2020 census.

The panel, by a 24-15 vote, recommended that the full House of Representatives find Barr and Ross in contempt for refusing to cooperate with an investigation of the administration's decision to add a citizenship question to the census.

The vote came hours after the Department of Justice said that U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted executive privilege over related materials subpoenaed by the Democrat-controlled House committee. Enditem
