ANKARA, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Defense Ministry said on Thursday that a Turkish observation point in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib was attacked by the Syrian government forces.

The ministry said in a statement that three Turkish soldiers were slightly injured in the attack.

The observation point, located near Mount Zawiyah in the Idlib de-escalation zone, was targeted by 35 mortar rounds fired from As Shariah region controlled by the Syrian government, the statement said.

Turkey has contacted Russia about the incident, it added.

On Wednesday, the Russian military said Moscow and Ankara had agreed on a renewed cease-fire in Idlib.

Last year, Russia and Turkey sealed an Idlib agreement to set up a demilitarized zone with a depth of 15-20 km between the armed opposition and the government troops in Syria's Idlib.

Turkey has established 12 observation points from Idlib's north to south in order to monitor and sustain the cease-fire to prevent the mass influx of refugees.
