BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Peja Lindholm of Sweden has been named as head coach of the Chinese national curling team, the Chinese Curling Association said here on Saturday.

Lindholm, who took the helm of the Swedish team until the 2019 World Cup Grand Final, will take up the post in August this year to tune for the new season.

The 49-year-old Swede said he is both excited for the appointment and confident of leading the Chinese team to do good at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

"The Chinese curling team is composed of young and energetic members, they are competitive. I am actually familiar with them as I have paid close attention to their performance in many international competitions," said Lindholm.

As an athlete, Lindholm has won three world championships and became the head coach and sports director of the Swedish national team since 2010.

Lindholm has led Sweden to collect 31 medals in the world arena, including women's gold medal and men's silver medal at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics as well as men's gold medal and women's silver medal at the 2019 World Curling Championships.

"I believe the Chinese national curling team will make great progress and become one of the top teams in the world through joint efforts with our coaching staff," said Lindholm.
