NANJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Government departments and public institutions in the city of Suqian, eastern China's Jiangsu Province, have opened their toilets to the public to provide convenience.
People in the city have access to a total of 70 toilets in government departments from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., according to the city's urban management and law enforcement bureau on Tuesday.
The bureau has made unified signboards showing the location of these toilets to provide convenience for the public.
Due to the poor infrastructure, the city had 147 public toilets in its core area of 64 square kilometers in 2010. Only 58 of them were free to the public, and they were closed after 10 p.m.
Suqian launched the "toilet revolution" in 2013 to renovate and improve the city's public toilets. So far, the city has 578 public toilets which are free of charge and open 24 hours a day.
