BEIJING, June 18 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) encourages university students to have social practice in their hometowns, said China Youth Daily Monday.

Students can serve in local administrations, enterprises, community-level branches of the youth league and take part in social service activities, according to the newspaper.

The Central Committee of the CYLC asked youth leagues in universities to motivate students to serve in the project and required youth league organizations at city and county levels to arrange practice positions for the students during summer and winter vacations.

Students are also encouraged to continue their social practice at school in various forms, such as taking up online liaison work between their schools and local communities.

Progress has been made in the project, said the newspaper, adding that the youth league in northeast China's Jilin Province selected 1,000 university students from local households to assist in civil affairs in villages, towns and communities.
