KUWAIT CITY, June 18 (Xinhua) -- Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will discuss with Iraqi officials bilateral ties and recent regional and international developments during his upcoming visit to Iraq.
"The visit comes at a time when the region is experiencing critical circumstances and continuing escalation. This should reflect the significance of coordination with the Iraqi side to ease regional tension," said Khaled Al-Jarallah, Kuwait's deputy foreign minister.
The emir's visit to Iraq marks distinguished fraternal ties between the two close neighbors, he said, stressing Kuwait's interest in developing relations with Iraq in all fields.
He will pay a state visit to Iraq on Wednesday, according to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
This is the second visit by the emir to Iraq. The first was in March 2012, when he led a Kuwaiti delegation to the Arab summit in Baghdad, according to KUNA.
