TOKYO, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Thursday, tracking modest gains on Wall Street overnight, after the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated it would cut interest rates if needed to deal with economic headwinds facing the country.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 94.92 points, or 0.44 percent, from Wednesday to 21,428.79.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 5.77 points, or 0.37 percent, at 1,561.04.
Marine transportation, real estate, and farm and fishery-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
