BERLIN, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Mainz and newly promoted Union Berlin have agreed on the transfer of striker Anthony Ujah, both Bundesliga clubs confirmed on Thursday.

The Nigeria international has put pen to paper on a three-year deal and will stay with Union Berlin until June 2022. His contract will be valid for the first and also for second division.

"I was able to convince myself of Union in Berlin. The impressions at the Alte Forsterei were very positive. I am looking forward to an exciting challenge and want to put my experience and performance to the service of the team to ensure a successful season," Ujah said.

Ujah knows the Bundesliga very well as he also played for Cologne (2012/2015) and Werder Bremen (2015/2016). He played since January 2018 for Mainz and scored four goals in 35 appearances.

"With Anthony Ujah we have signed a striker who has proven himself at several Bundesliga clubs. We are very happy that we were able to complete such a transfer. I am absolutely convinced that his experience will be extremely valuable for us," Union Berlin's CEO Oliver Ruhnert said.

In the past season, Union won the relegation playoffs against Stuttgart on two away goals (2-2 on aggregate) and secured their first ever promotion into the first division in the club's history for the Bundesliga season 2019/2020. "Die Eisernen" will be the 56th club to play in Germany's top flight.
