MACAO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Macao's composite consumer price index (CPI) in May increased 2.69 percent year-on-year to 115.46, down 0.08 percentage points compared with that of growth in April (2.77 percent), the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistic service said here on Friday.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated the increment in May was attributable to dearer charges for eating out, higher rentals for dwellings, as well as rising prices of motor cars, gasoline and fruits.

Among the various sections of goods and services, price indices of education and transport grew notably by 5.90 percent and 4.88 percent respectively year-on-year, whereas the indices of communication, as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco, dropped by 0.79 percent and 0.21 percent.

For the 12 months ended May this year, the average composite CPI rose by 3.07 percent from the previous period, with notable growth in the price indices of transport, education, as well as clothing and footwear.
