China Literature, Singtel forge strategic partnership to promote digital literature

SINGAPORE, June 22 (Xinhua) -- China Literature Limited, a pioneer in the online literature market, forged a strategic partnership with Asia's leading communications technology group Singtel by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) here on Saturday.

At the signing ceremony, the two sides announced that they would collaborate in digital literature services and content platform businesses. Specifically, they would cooperate in areas including content co-production, licensing and distribution, marketing and promotional activities and digital payment services.

This would pave the way for users to access and subscribe to content from China Literature and its global content creation platform Webnovel, on Singtel's digital applications such as its Dash mobile wallet, said the two companies in a joint news release.

The release said that Singtel's digital payment services would be integrated with China Literature's digital applications to facilitate payments for paid contents.

Besides, they said that the Singtel-China Literature partnership would also cover areas such as support for original content, and nurturing of writers, translators and editors, enhancing the development of quality content in Southeast Asia. Both parties would explore content adaptation, production and promotional activities on Singtel's video platforms.

Wu Wenhui, co-CEO of China Literature, said in the release that Southeast Asia is one of the key markets for online literature, and Singapore is a confluence of Eastern and Western cultures. He said that the strategic cooperation between China Literature and Singtel would leverage their respective advantages in content and platform, further promote cross-border integration of culture content, and explore new products and formats for online literature.

Arthur Lang Tao Yih, CEO of Singtel's International Group, said that Singtel was looking forward to bringing digital literature to its customers, particularly millennials who enjoy user-generated content. He said the collaboration with China Literature would further Singtel's efforts to drive user engagement and build communities with Singtel's digital apps and services.

"We hope to jointly grow digital literature in the region and explore opportunities in a wide range of media formats and content delivery," he added.

According to a news release, China Literature and Singtel will jointly leverage their unique strength to achieve greater business synergies, tap on Singtel's digital and payment capabilities and combined reach of over 690 million mobile customers together with China Literature's position as a leading online literature platform with 7.7 million writers and 11.2 million online literary works.

"We can bring the customers, China Literature brings the office here, to create the ecosystem of engagement," Lang said.
