JERUSALEM, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Israeli university students have developed an advanced system, based on machine learning, for cases in which babies and children are forgotten in hot vehicles, reported on Sunday by the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), located in the northern city of Haifa.

According to governmental data, 755 children have been forgotten in vehicles in Israel over the past decade, of whom 30 died because of the hot weather.

Various solutions proposed to date, such as continuous monitoring of the weight placed on the car seat, were not enough.

The new system is based on an advanced low-cost thermal sensor installed in front of the child seat in the rear seat and connected to the cigarette lighter socket. This allows to use the device in several cars.

The sensor transfers the data to a learning system that analyzes them and makes quick and correct decisions.

The sensor produces an image of the child and transfers the data to a tiny, inexpensive computer, which processes the information in an artificial intelligence algorithm and alerts. This is done by weighing additional variables designed to prevent false alarms.

The system activates a sequence of alarms in a circle that expands according to the time and temperature of the vehicle.

Thus, a warning light is turned on, followed by a warning beep and, if necessary, the sending of text messages in an expanding message circuit.

This circle includes rescuers who can control the car from afar and open doors and windows.

The uniqueness of the new system is the combination of several advantages rare in existing systems: ease of use, installation simplicity, high reliability and low price, and does not require the use of a special safety seat.
