SAO PAULO, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Peru forward Jefferson Farfan will miss the rest of the Copa America because of a knee injury, the country's football federation said on Monday.
The 34-year-old Lokomotiv Moscow player sat out Peru's training session at Sao Paulo's Pacaembu stadium on Monday after sustaining the setback in his team's 5-0 loss to hosts Brazil on Saturday.
Scans confirmed Peru's worst fears on Monday afternoon, though the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) did not provide details of the injury.
"Jefferson Farfan has suffered a left knee injury which will make it impossible for him to continue participating at the Copa America in Brazil," read an FPF statement.
Peru finished third in Group A with four points from their three matches. The Blanquirroja will play the winner of Monday's Group C duel between Uruguay and Chile in the quarterfinals.
