United Nations Security Council on Tuesday requested the UN chief to establish a special political mission (SPM) in Haiti to replace the current UN Mission for Justice Support in Haiti (MINUJUSTH). Resolution 2476, adopted by the 15-member Council, requests the secretary-general to establish "the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti," or BINUH, using its French acronym beginning on Oct. 16, 2019 and for an initial period of 12 months, "headed by a special representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to be appointed as swiftly as possible."
