BERLIN, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Wolfsburg have completed the transfer of Xaver Schlager from RB Salzburg, both clubs announced on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old midfielder has penned a four-year deal and will stay with the "Wolves" until June 2023.

"We are delighted that we continue to strengthen our squad with the signing of Xaver Schlager. He is a young player, who is hungry for success and can now take the next step in his career," Wolfsburg's sporting director Marcel Schaefer said.

Schlager played since 2016 for RB Salzburg where he made 67 competitive appearances to provide seven goals ever since. His performances earned him a place in Austria's national team where he made his first cap in March 2018. He scored one goals in eleven international encounters.

"I am really looking forward to Wolfsburg and the challenge to play in the German Bundesliga. I had a successful time in Salzburg, for which I will always be grateful to the club. But now, the time has come for a change," Schlager said.

The Austrian new arrival is the fourth Wolfsburg summer signing after Kevin Mbabu, Joao Victor and Paolo Otavio.
