JAKARTA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- About 500 athletes from 44 Asian countries, including China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore will feature in the 2019 Asian Table Tennis Championships in Indonesia's Yogyakarta province later this year.

The Championships is scheduled to be played from September 19 to 22 in Amonggoro sport stadium of Yogyakarta province, chairman of Indonesian table tennis association and retired commissioner general Oegroseno unveiled on Thursday.

Host Indonesia will send young players into the biennial tournament as it will use the event as a warm up for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, he said.

"We will deploy athletes with age below 18 years," he was quoted by a local media in Yogyakarta province.

Beside, Oegroseno said that the association also aims to foster young table tennis players, improving their skills and performance, so that they can be competitive at other tournaments in the region.
