South Africa name strong team for World Para Swimming Championships

JOHANNESBURG, July 1 (Xinhua) -- South Africa on Monday announced a strong team to compete at the 2019 Allianz World Para Swimming Championships to be held in London.

The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) announced the team to represent the country in Johannesburg.

Sascoc President Gideon Sam said the team comprises of swimmers who have international experience in various renowned events such as the World Championships and Paralympic Games. All the swimmers have attained the required qualification standard set out by World Para Swimming and have also met the requirements of Swimming South Africa.

"We wish the team well on their quest to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. We are extremely pleased to see the growth of Tadhg Slattery into the coaching role since retiring as one of our most accomplished para swimmers," said Sam.

He stated that the World Para Championships is an important event as it is a major qualification event for places for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games squad.
