CHINA-GUANGXI-RED ARMY-LONG MARCH-HISTORICAL SITES (CN)

Jiang Jiyong, a local villager, tells his experience as an 11-year-old boy during the 1934 Battle of Xiangjiang at the Fenghuangzui ferry point in Quanzhou County, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, June 29, 2019. The Battle of Xiangjiang in late 1934 is deemed by history experts as pivotal to a successful Long March of the Red Army led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) between 1934 and 1936. During the battle, the Red Army lost almost two thirds of its troops when crossing the Xiangjiang River from ferry points scattered in today's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, but managed to break through a military blockade line by the rival. By noon time on December 1, 1934, the main forces of the Red Army had all crossed the Xiangjiang River and the historic Long March was thus carried on. (Xinhua/Zhou Hua)
