Oman sees increase of cardiac surgeries in 2018

MUSCAT, July 2 (Xinhua) -- A number of 6,540 diagnostic and therapeutic catheters and 951 cardiac surgeries were performed in Oman in 2018, according to figures released on Tuesday by the National Heart Center at the Royal Hospital.

As cardiovascular diseases are leading cause of death in Oman and the world, the country works to promote healthcare in the field in line with the latest treatment and diagnosis of heart diseases.

The report said that on average, 22 cardiac catheters were done per day, with an increase of 133 percent compared with the number of catheters performed in 2010.

The report also said that open heart surgery operations were performed with high success and low side complications.
