BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is paying an official visit to China from July 1 to 5. During the visit, Hasina will also attend the 13th Summer Davos Forum in northeast China's Dalian.
The following is a profile of Hasina.
Born on Sept. 28, 1947 in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangladesh's founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, obtained a bachelor's degree of Arts from Dhaka University in 1973.
Hasina was president of the current ruling Awami League party from 1981 to 1996.
Hasina was elected as the prime minister of Bangladesh for the fourth time in January 2019. She served as prime minister of Bangladesh for three times, from 1996 to 2001, from 2009 to early 2014, from 2014 to early 2019, respectively.
She is friendly to China and has visited China many times. She visited China as president of the Awami League party in 1993 and 2003, respectively. She paid official visits to China as prime minister of Bangladesh in 1996, 2010 and 2014, respectively. Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Hasina when attending a series of summits on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the UN's founding in New York in Sept. 2015.
Her husband Dr. Wazed Miah, a well-known Bangladeshi physicist, died in May, 2009. They have one son and one daughter.
