TEHRAN, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Iranian football club Persepolis have appointed Gabriel Calderon as their new head coach, Persian Football website reported on Wednesday.
The 59-year-old Argentinian has signed a one-year contract, with the option to extend for a further year.
He replaces Branko Ivankovic, who left Persepolis in mid-June to take charge of Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli.
Ex-Argentina midfielder Calderon, who has represented the Albiceleste in the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cups, already has extensive experience of coaching in the Middle East, having led the national teams of Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia, as well as Saudi club sides Al Hilial and Al Ittihad, and Qatari outfit Qatar SC.
