"Spider-Man: Far From Home" tops North American box office in opening weekend

LOS ANGELES, July 7 (Xinhua) -- "Spider-Man: Far From Home" dominated the North American box office this weekend with 93.6 million U.S. dollars for this weekend and 185 million dollars since its debut on Tuesday.

The movie, starring Tom Holland, earned an additional 395 million dollars from overseas markets since opening day for a worldwide total of 580 million dollars as of Sunday.

The weekend haul is the fourth largest opening weekend in Sony's entire "Spider-Man" franchise. Domestically, it is also the fourth largest opening weekend of 2019 behind "Avengers: Endgame," "Captain Marvel" and "Toy Story 4."

Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story 4" slid to second place with 34.3 million dollars in ticket sales during its third weekend, bringing its domestic tally to a massive 306.5 million dollars.

Universal's Beatles tribute "Yesterday" notched the third place with 10.7 million dollars sales for the weekend.

In fourth, Warner Bros.' "Annabelle Comes Home" added 9.7 million dollars this weekend, taking total box office receipts to 50.1 million dollars.

Rounding out the top five is Disney's "Aladdin," which collected 7.6 million dollars in its seventh weekend in theaters. The live-action remake has generated 320.7 million dollars in North America.
