SANTIAGO, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Latin America will account for more than 25 percent of global agricultural and fisheries exports by 2028, a United Nations agency said Monday.

Agricultural production in the region will continue to grow over the next decade, with a 22-percent increase in crops and a 16-percent increase in fish and seafood, according to the report "2019-2028 Agricultural Outlook" released by the Santiago office of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

With international demand for corn, rice and beef outpacing internal demand, an increasing portion of those goods will be earmarked for export in the next 10 years, the report said.

The region currently accounts for 23 percent of global exports in agricultural goods and fisheries, and 14 percent of the world's agricultural output.

The FAO report was compiled in conjunction with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
