UNTIED NATIONS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- A 10-day forum opened Tuesday at the UN headquarters with the aim to review the progress made so far toward the 2030 Agenda, consisting of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in 2015.

The annual High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is being held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

According to ECOSOC President Inga Rhonda King, HLPF this year will discuss six SDGs -- quality education; decent work and economic growth; reducing inequalities; climate action; peace, justice and strong institutions; and partnerships.

In her opening remarks, she said a special edition of the UN secretary-general's progress report will be presented at the forum, as this year marks the last one in a quadrennial cycle of the review process.

She noted by the end of this forum, the HLPF will have reviewed all 17 SDGs and heard 142 countries presenting their voluntary national reviews.

She further said besides official meetings, the HLPF will have eight special events and over 130 side events as well as over 30 exhibitions.

Encouraging delegates to "actively participate in discussions," she said "we have the unprecedented opportunity to talk to each other and to learn from each other. This is a global moment where we are all together."

As the fourth such forum since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in 2015, this HLPF will set the stage for the SDG summit during the high-level week of the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly in September, where a political declaration is set to be adopted.

The forum attracted more than 2,000 participants, including some 100 ministers. Over 40 countries will present their voluntary national reviews this year.
