N. Macedonia's rural infrastructure improves through 133 EU-founded projects

SKOPJE, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The rural infrastructure in North Macedonia has seen further improvement through the completion of a total of 133 projects realized with Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) grants, funded by the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Finance said a press release on Tuesday.

According to the Finance Ministry, a total of 133 infrastructure projects were implemented in 78 municipalities across North Macedonia, which aimed at improving the quality of life in rural areas and resolving infrastructure issues.

The projects reach a total value of 16.9 million euros, out of which 12.7 million euros are EU grants, whereas 4.2 million euros are funded by the national budget.

Two newly reconstructed roads and a local roadway reopened to traffic on Tuesday after their reconstruction worth 260,000 euros, the ministry added.

According to the press release, the grants for the development of rural infrastructure have been provided from the EU upon request by the North Macedonian government, implemented by the Ministry of Finance with the World Bank support.

The Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance is an EU funding mechanism that offers funds to both EU candidate countries and potential candidates. (1 euro = 1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
