SARAJEVO, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) has allocated 8.4 million euros (9.4 million U.S. dollars) to a joint employment, environmental protection and tourism promotion project by Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Montenegro, local media reported here on Tuesday.

Nada Bojanic, head of BiH's Directorate for European Integration, said that 35 joint projects have already been implemented since cross-border cooperation between BiH and Montenegro started in 2007 under the previous Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) I program.

She highlighted the "Via Dinarica" project, which aims to develop a mega-mountaineering and hiking trail connecting the natural and cultural sights in the Dinaric Alps. The project holds great potentials for both countries, she added.

Special attention will be paid to joint projects that will draw upon and improve the two countries' economic, cultural, natural and human resources.

The program, lasting until 2020, covers 70 municipalities in the two states -- 56 in BiH and 14 in Montenegro. (1 euro=1.12 U.S. dollars) Enditem
