BEIRUT, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's House Speaker Nabih Berri slammed on Wednesday the latest U.S. sanctions imposed on three high-ranking Lebanese officials, local media reported.

"The U.S. sanctions against Lebanese MPs and officials are an attack on the parliament and the country," Berri was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.

Berri called upon the Inter-Parliamentary Union to take the necessary measures towards this unreasonable act.

The U.S. Treasury Department named on Tuesday three Hezbollah officials, MP Mohammad Raad, MP Amin Sharri and Security Chief Wafiq Safa, as "specially designated global terrorists," effectively cutting them off from the international financial system.

This move is part of a campaign to deprive Hezbollah of all its sources of income.
