Kweichow Moutai's net profit surges 26.2 pct in H1

BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- China's leading liquor maker Kweichow Moutai saw a 26.2-percent rise in net profit in H1, according to its financial report filed to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The company's net profit attributed to listed company shareholders rose markedly to 19.9 billion yuan (about 2.9 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half.

Over the same period, Moutai's revenue reached 41.2 billion yuan, up 16.9 percent year on year.

Moutai, a high-end spirit in China, is considered a luxury item that has long been a popular gift.

The liquor maker, which is based in southwest China's Guizhou Province, produced 34,400 tonnes of base liquor for its Moutai brand and 10,900 tonnes of base liquor for other brands of its own in the first six months.
