SKOPJE, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The number of tourists visiting North Macedonia in May 2019 was 4.8 percent lower than in the same month a year earlier, the State Statistical Office (SSO) said in a report on Friday.
According to the SSO, the number of tourists in May 2019 was 98,998, and they spent a total of 205,356 nights. This latter figure decreased by 2.8 percent year-on-year.
In May this year, the number of domestic and foreign tourists decreased by 4.1 percent and 5.2 percent, respectively, year-on-year.
According to the SSO, the number of nights spent by domestic tourists in May 2019 decreased by 11.7 percent. Foreign tourist spent 2.1 percent more nights.
Between January and May 2019, compared to the same period last year, the number of tourists increased by 0.1 percent, the number of domestic tourists increased by 2.6 percent, and that of foreign tourists decreased by 1 percent.
"The number of nights spent by tourists in North Macedonia in the period January-May 2019 decreased by 0.3 percent year-on-year," the SSO said.
