YAOUNDE, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Cameroonian President Paul Biya and other fans of volleyball across Cameroon on Sunday hailed the country's national women's volleyball team for winning 2019 Women's African Nations Volleyball Championship for the second consecutive time.

Cameroon defeated Kenya 3-2 (25-17, 25-27, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14) in the final of the championship Sunday evening in Egypt.

"Congratulations to the Indomitable Lionesses following their brilliant back-to-back victory at the AFCON2019 in Women's Volleyball. You are the pride of Cameroon. Together, we are champions," Biya said on Twitter.

Cameroon's Minster of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi acclaimed the team for its display of hard work and resilience.

"They did it! They are champions again. We are proud of you," Kombi posted on his facebook page.

Popular Cameroon journalist Paul Mahel applauded the team for its selflessness and determination.

"They have conquered the tournament with calm and determination. Without asking for fame and fortune, they do what they have to do and they do it well. Match after match, they have demonstrated their talent," Mahel said.

In the capital, Yaounde, fans praised the Indomitable lionesses for their show of quality and solidarity.

"They have comforted Cameroonians just after we lost at the football Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. These girls are wonderful and really united," volleyball fan James Malee said.

"We did not even know that they were playing finals for women's volleyball in Egypt because Cameroon is predominantly a football nation. But this victory has brought us so much joy. Volleyball is now in the limelight here," another fan, Vivian Mbah added.

The Cameroonian team is expected to arrive Cameroon with the trophy early Monday.
