BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhua) -- China would like to share their experience in doping control at major multi-sport events, China Anti-Doping Agency CEO Chen Zhiyu said during the first CHINADA International Anti-Doping Symposium held here from July 16-17.
"The origin of China's anti-doping work is closely related to major sporting events," said Chen. "In 1987, China set up the Beijing doping testing laboratory to prepare for the upcoming 11th Beijing Asian Games. This can be regarded as a starting point of China's anti-doping work."
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games can be regarded as another milestone. At that event, the number of tests was then history-high 4,700 and with this opportunity, China developed a whole doping control system for multi-sport events ranging from doping control officer training, doping control stations set-up, testing to education.
"We accumulate experience through every event we staged and also sent staff to big events like Rio Olympic Games and the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games so as to learn from others' experience," added Chen.
"Now we already have enough experience to set up a whole system that we call the 'Chinese model'," Chen said.
"This symposium is the platform we share our stories with the outside world, opening a window for other people to know what we do and how we do it," he added.
