MACAO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Kou Hoi In, a veteran lawmaker, was on Wednesday elected as president of the Legislative Assembly of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Kou, also a deputy of China's National People's Congress (NPC), won 29 votes from 32 legislators.

He was sworn in on Wednesday afternoon, with the witness of the SAR's Chief Executive Chui Sai On.

In line with the Basic Law, the SAR's Legislative Assembly is composed of 33 seats, including 14 directly-elected seats, 12 indirectly-elected seats and seven others which are appointed by the SAR chief executive.

Ho Iat Seng, former president of the SAR's Legislative Assembly, announced earlier this month to give up his membership of the Legislative Assembly as he had decided to run for the office of the fifth chief executive of the Macao SAR.
