NEW DELHI, July 18 (Xinhua) -- India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Brazil on July 25 and July 26 to attend the meeting of BRICS' foreign ministers, the Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday.
Jaishankar is expected to discuss many issues such as the preparation for the 11th BRICS Summit to be held in Brasilia in November, the ministry said in a statement.
This would be Jaishankar's first engagement with his BRICS counterparts since assuming office last month.
The meeting of BRICS' foreign ministers is held twice annually. While one meeting is hosted by the BRICS chair as a Standalone Meeting, the other meeting is held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
"India attaches high importance to its engagement with BRICS and has continued to engage BRICS at the highest levels. We believe that BRICS has emerged as a valuable forum for consultation, coordination and cooperation on contemporary global issues of mutual interest and has helped promote mutual understanding," said an official statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
