CAIRO, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The Algerian national football team left Cairo international airport on Saturday heading back home with the trophy of Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Algeria beat Senegal 1-0 on Friday evening to win the trophy, the second AFCON trophy hoisted by Algeria after the first in 1990.
Algeria made a distinguished run in the 2019 AFCON, edging big teams like two-time title holders Cote d'Ivoire, the Elephants, and three-time champions Nigeria, the Super Eagles.
Algeria's 22-year-old tireless midfielder Ismael Bennacer, who foiled most of the rivals' attacks and made remarkable assists during the tournament, was awarded the 2019 AFCON best player prize. Enditem
