NEW YORK, July 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday as investors are anticipating more strong earnings reports.

Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 31.67 points, or 0.12 percent, to 27,185.87. The S&P 500 was up 6.27 points, or 0.21 percent, to 2,982.88. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 28.53 points, or 0.35 percent, to 8,175.02.

Of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors, technology rose 0.8 percent shortly after the opening, outperforming the rest. Utilities, however, decreased more than 0.5 percent, the worst-performing group.

A big wave of companies is expected to report earnings this week including Alphabet, Amazon and Boeing.

So far, more than 15 percent of the S&P 500 have posted quarterly results. Of those companies, 78.5 percent have topped analysts' expectations for earnings while 67 percent have reported better-than-expected quarterly revenues, according to CNBC, citing FactSet data.

In the week ending July 19, U.S. equities posted losses as investors digested mixed quarterly earnings results and looked for clues to the central bank's next monetary move. The Dow declined 0.7 percent, while both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq erased about 1.2 percent for the week. Enditem
