Rhiannan Iffland wins gold medal in women's 20m high diving at FINA Worlds

GWANGJU, South Korea, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Rhiannan Iffland of Australia won a gold medal in the women's 20m high diving at the 18th FINA World Championships here on Tuesday.

Iffland ended the first two rounds in the fifth place on Monday, but came from behind in the last fourth attempt, finishing in 298.05 points to win gold.

Adriana Jimenez of Mexico, who led the field with 148.20 points in the first two rounds, came second after the last round with a score of 297.90 points, just 0.15 behind the Australian high diver. The Mexican also won a silver medal two years ago in the event.

Jessica Macaulay of Britain came away with bronze scoring 295.40 points among 12 competitors.

The high diving first became a medal event at the biannial event in 2013.
