LONDON, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Sporting Club de Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes says he would like to play in England.

The 24-year-old Portuguese international is thought to be one of this summer's top transfer targets for Manchester United as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side looks to improve on last season's disappointing sixth place finish.

So far United have signed young winger Daniel James and right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but need more depth in midfield after the departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini (who moved to China at the start of the year), and Fernandes would fit the part of a goal-scorer from the middle of the park.

Speaking to the press from New York, the United States, Fernandes seemed open to the chance to move, although he was giving little away.

"I said I'd like to play in England, but I don't care about it right now," he commented, saying the only he "didn't know" if it would be his last game for Sporting.

"It's the coach who decides," he said.

When pressed on whether he would move this season, Fernandez insisted, "It could be when the club decides, I'm not in charge."

"I don't care about the [transfer] market, I've talked about this many times," he added.

The midfielder signed a five-year-contract with Sporting in the summer of 2018 which included a release clause of around 38.5 million U.S. dollars.

However, the complicated contract doesn't mean Sporting are obliged to see if another club meets that valuation, although they would have to pay Fernandez compensation and Sporting are thought to currently value him at somewhere in the region of 70 million dollars.
