MENDOZA, Argentina, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras recovered from a two-goal deficit to salvage a 2-2 draw away to Godoy Cruz in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores round of 16 clash.

Uruguayan forward Santiago Garcia netted twice in 23 minutes for the Argentine side before former Brazil midfielder pegged a goal back just after the half hour mark.

Colombia striker Miguel Borja netted a 59th-minute equalizer as Palmeiras ensured they will enter next week's second leg in Sao Paulo as favorites to progress to the last eight.

In Ecuador, LDU Quito beat Olimpia of Paraguay 3-1 thanks to goals from Jose Ayovi, Jhojan Julio and Rodrigo Aguirre. Juan Rojas was on target for Olimpia.

And in Buenos Aires, defending champions River Plate were held to a goalless draw by Brazil's Cruzeiro.
