Uganda selected to host FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup

KAMPALA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has selected Uganda to host the 3x3 Africa Cup for three years from 2019 to 2021, a top official said here on Wednesday.

Nasser Sserunjogi, the president of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association told Xinhua that they have signed a three-year agreement with FIBA to host the event.

Uganda will host the 2019 Championship slated for November 8-10.

The event is expected to attract a record 192 players with 12 teams of open category (men and women) and 12 teams of U-18 (men and women) from all over Africa.

"We can't wait to host the FIFA 3x3 Africa Cup. We shall make sure we prepare our teams well enough and also handle the logistical side well to be able to organize a successful event," added Sserunjogi.

The men's team of Cote d'Ivoire and the women's side of Mali are the defending champions after winning in the second edition of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup in Lome, Togo last year.

The teams that are actively playing 3x3 basketball in Africa and are expected to take part in the Africa Cup include; Cote d'Ivoire, Uganda, Nigeria, DR Congo, Mali, Egypt, Togo, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Mauritania, Benin, Niger and Ghana. Enditem
