BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- An eight-episode food documentary is being aired online at Tencent Video, digging up stories about ordinary people's lives through delicacies served only at night, China Daily reported Friday.

Titled "Taste Humanity at Night," the documentary premiered on July 2 and releases a new episode on each Tuesday.

Four episodes have been released introducing night-time dishes from Shenyang, Wuhan, Nanning and Xiamen, while the upcoming four episodes unfold stories of delicacies in Xi'an, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Guangzhou.

The paper cited Du Xing, director of the documentary, as saying that he tried to capture the essence and character of each city in his documentary.

"We focused on ordinary people's stories, so we did not search for restaurants on review platforms. In Shenyang, my colleague and I just jumped on a bike and wandered the streets for days to find our stories," Du said.

Following the success of "A bite of China" and "Once Upon a Bite," China has seen a noticeable growth of food documentaries in recent years.
