Hamas hails Palestinian president's decision not to abide by treaties signed with Israel

GAZA, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement hailed on Friday the decision of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he intends not to abide by the peace agreements signed with Israel.

The movement said in an emailed press statement that Abbas' declaration on Thursday to cease the agreements signed with Israel is "a step in the right direction."

Hamas also said that the Palestinian people "are looking forward to see these actions come into effect as soon as possible throughout a joint agreed-upon plan that immediately begins."

The movement also called for the immediate formation of a national unity government and stop immediately security coordination with Israel "in order to be able to confront the dangers that aim at liquidating the just Palestinian cause."

Meanwhile, the left-wing group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) also said in a press statement that the decision of the Palestinian leadership "is a step in the right direction, but it is not enough."

"What is needed is to stop acting with all the agreements and stop any commitment towards any of the treaties and agreements the Palestinians signed with the Israeli occupation," said the PFLP.

Abbas announced on Thursday that the Palestinian leadership is intending not to abide by the peace agreements signed with Israel.

He said during a meeting for the Palestinian leadership held in Ramallah that a committee is to be formed to implement the made decision that was based on previous decisions related to defining the nature of the relationship with Israel.
