24 killed, 27 missing in SW China landslide

GUIYANG, July 26 (Xinhua) -- As of 1 p.m. on Friday, 24 people were confirmed dead and 27 others remained missing after a landslide hit southwest China's Guizhou Province late Tuesday, local authorities said.

Investigations show that 77 people from 22 households lived in the landslide-affected area. Eight visitors and workers were also residing there when the disaster occurred.

Twenty-three locals who were outside when the landslide struck have been located as of Friday afternoon while 11 injured have been sent to local hospitals, according to the emergency rescue headquarters at the site of the landslide.

Rescuers are still searching for the missing people.

At about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, a landslide lashed a village in the city of Liupanshui, burying 21 houses.
