TEHRAN, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The British ambassador to Iran said on Sunday that he had a "good" meeting with a senior Iranian lawmaker over the existing issues between the two countries.
"Good and detailed discussion on many issues with new Majles National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman, Hojjatoleslam Zonnour," Rob Macaire tweeted.
"Important to keep these channels of discussion open," he said.
Earlier in the day, Macaire held a meeting with Zonnour in Tehran to discuss recent issues which have had adverse impact on the relations between the two countries.
Relations between Tehran and London began to deteriorate after Britain's naval force seized the Iranian oil tanker Grace 1 in the Strait of Gibraltar on the allegations that "it was breaching EU sanctions on Syria," which was denied by Iran.
Two weeks later, Iran seized the British oil tanker Stena Impero in the Strait of Hormuz for "violating maritime regulations."
